Days have gone when you had to struggle to obtain documents from RTO and other authorities. Three types of documents are required for selling your car interstate viz. vehicle documents, personal documents, and documents from the RTO.

Vehicle Documents Required for the Sale of Car Interstate:

The vehicle documents that are mandatory for selling your car, whether it is interstate or within the state are:

Registration Certificate:  RC is the first and foremost vehicle document you should have. It contains all the details about the vehicle, like registration number, owner’s name, engine number, chassis number, hypothecation if any, cubic capacity, registration year, etc. The RC (in original) has to be submitted to the RTO in the buyer’s state for formalities like ownership transfer.

Pollution Under Control (PUC):  will state the emissions from the vehicle. A valid PUC has to be there with the vehicle.

A set of forms has to be collected from the relevant RTO, filled in, and submitted for processing interstate sales and completing the ownership transfer:

On the other hand, there are exceptions to this as well. Some states need NOC even during the sale intrastate.

RTO Form 29 or Notice of Transfer of Ownership of a Motor Vehicle is another main document that has to be filled and submitted to the RTO in duplicate. Both the buyer and seller should sign the document and submit it along with passport-size photographs of both parties.
